Ducks, Geese, and Swans are common visitors to the Niagara during all seasons. Many nest here. During the winter, the Niagara River is often the first open water that migrants from the northern lakes and river encounter. Some have called the river the Miami of the North for visiting waterfowl. The river is a great source of food and shelter. Spectacular concentrations of waterfowl of over 35 species can be found during the winter months.
